Kate scores a fashion hat trick in Vanity Fair

Kate Middleton has been topped the International Best Dressed list for 2012 from fashion bible Vanity Fair, making it three years in a row she has been named as number one. Kate, or the Duchess of Cambridge to give her her official title, has won global acclaim for her dress sense and sense of style, and her unfailing patronage of British designers such as Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen.

Her natural elegance and easy transition from commoner to Royal are also listed as the assets that have seen her top not only the Vanity Fair list but similar ones across the globe. She has seen off the challenge from many glamorous stars of Hollywood to take the title for the last 3 years, which she first won when she started to be spotted at family events with Prince William, and the world really sat up and took notice.

Those following in Kate’s wake in the 2012 list include the actress Jessica Chastain, rapper Jay-Z, model and actress Lea Seydoux, the photographer for New York Times Style Bill Cunningham and the Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

She isn’t the only British royal to make the list either, as she is joined by her brother in law Prince Harry. He seems to have received recognition for his impressive shoe collection, that ranges from the Chuck Berry/Elvis Presley blue suede shoes to his desert boots from Russell & Bromley. His style statements during the solo tour he made of the Caribbean earlier in the year also saw him rise to the heady heights of being a male fashion icon.

Royals from other European houses have also featured on the list, including Crown Prince Mary of Denmark, Princess Alexandra of Greece and Princess Charlotte Casiraghi from Monaco. Charlotte, the granddaughter of Hollywood legend Grace Kelly combines equestrianism with modelling, and appeared on the cover of French Vogue last September, showing off her model girl looks to great effect.
