Fashion month moves on

For some, October means Halloween costumes and parties. For those in the fashion world, however, October means Fashion Month, a month for showcasing new fashions rather than scary costumes. This week, big name celebrities such as Kanye West, Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, and Kristen Stewart will converge on Paris, the fashion capital of the world, for Paris Fashion Week (PFW).

The prior season of the biannual Paris Fashion Week was an amazing display. Instead of using traditional cat-walks, fashion houses such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton employed unorthodox methods of showing off their models, planes and trains respectively. Let is not forget Katy Perry’s display in Paris where she showcased a new blue hair-do each day of the fashion show.

This season’s PFW looks like it might be even more exciting than the last for those interested in the world of fashion. Fashion heavy-hitters Louis Vuitton and Chanel will be present at this season’s show, so we can expect to see plenty of boucle, which is still popular in high fashion here in the UK. Gaudy make up is not a necessity in Paris this time around; in fact, less is better.

Long skirts with drop hems and slinky fabrics dominate this season. In terms of accessories, think pearls, brooches, and scarves. Heels are a staple of Fashion Week, and this year is no different. The heels don’t have to be as high as the Eiffel Tower though; pumps will do nicely.

We are sure to see some veterans of the fashion world, as well as some fashion rookies attending this season’s PFW. Among the faces new to the Paris scene is L’Wren Scott, American fashion designer and former fling of the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. Aside from fashioners and models, we can also expect celebrities to make appearances; some will be keeping their eyes on the stars rather than the cat-walks.
